Peyser Speaks at APTA Annual on High Speed Rail Policy and Politics
by Peyser
In a presentation at the American Public Transportation Association Annual Meeting, Peter Peyser on October 10th spoke on a panel on developments in high speed rail in the U.S. In his presentation, Peyser reviewed the history of US investment, or lack thereof, in high-speed rail and recalled the 1982 prediction from a top official in the French government rail agency that the US would never have high-speed rail. Pointing to the fact that progress is occurring in California and Texas in the development of high-speed rail service (i.e. 150 mph+) Peyser indicated that he believes the US will prove that 35-year old prediction wrong.
