Safe and Sustainable Mobility...High Speed Trains for America

The High Speed Ground Transportation Association is a not-for-profit trade association based in Washington, D.C., whose members are drawn from a wide array of public and private business interests, including: the financial community; engineering and design firms; labor unions; rail equipment manufacturers and material suppliers; construction companies; railroads; service providers; universities; Federal, state and local government agencies and officials; and private consultants.

The High Speed Ground Transportation Association believes that:

  • America’s freedom, economy, mobility and security are dependent upon building a network of high-speed trains as part of an enduring and balanced transportation system.
  • Building and maintaining a balanced transportation system is a public responsibility in partnership with private corporations.
  • The Federal government, in cooperation with state and local governments, should take the lead in investing dollars and other resources in high-speed trains in order to ensure the mobility of Americans.
  • There should be an open approach to high-speed train technology options and ownership responsibilities.
  • The HSGTA is the association that best represents the high-speed train community.
  • The diversity of our membership is one of our greatest assets.

The HSGTA’s mission is to secure a dedicated source of public funding to build -- through public-private partnerships -- a network of high-speed trains that is an integral part of our nation's transportation system.

Our Legislative Focus is:

  • Secure approval of current proposed federal legislation to fund high-speed trains.
  • Secure a federal bill that provides sufficient dedicated federal funding for high-speed trains in the next federal transportation authorization bill.
  • Secure Administration and U.S. DOT commitment to empower the Federal Railroad Administration, or establish a new federal agency, to promote, administer and implement a national high-speed train network.
  • Secure annual appropriations for high-speed trains at the maximum levels authorized in the next transportation authorization bill in order to ensure a balanced transportation system.
